Film is a form of literature and the opening image of a film can represent the theme or thesis the filmmaker wishes to explore through the art-form. "Opening Image" was chosen as the production company name to establish that each film produced under the company transcends formal communication through the multiple art forms film uses to tell a story.
Bare Skin is a psychological allegory that explores themes of chronic pain and trauma. Through the main characters’ collective stories, I wrote a character arc with the goal of acclimating the audience to a heightened level of terror to feel and understand how pain can transform an individual. When writing a screenplay, either I know the thesis I’m trying to achieve or I digest an emotion I’m unconsciously struggling with and a thesis is unearthed. Bare Skin, as the title suggests, was a very raw writing experience and discovery. As a director, I fought to stay true to that honest emotion. For me, a screenplay is the purest form of an idea. For Bare Skin, I can happily say what is on the page is on the screen. Simply, the film evokes the feelings and communicates the messages I desperately wanted to express and the final outcome is the most satisfying feeling.
Dynamic visual storytelling is at the heart of Bare Skin. The film’s diverse locations—including a forest shrouded in fear, a house engulfed in flames, a grim water well, a malevolent dungeon, a dwelling of delirium, and a therapist’s office—added depth to the narrative and provided immersive experiences for both the actors and the audience.
Over three years in the making, Bare Skin was crafted with meticulous care by a dedicated team of filmmakers. From pre-production to post, every aspect of the film reflects the passion and commitment of the cast and crew. We believe Bare Skin has the potential to leave a profound impact on audiences, inviting them to reflect on their own experiences with trauma, pain, and transformation. By combining psychological depth with striking visuals, the film transcends traditional horror to offer a story both haunting and thought-provoking.
